From Heidi MacDonald.

Old Yeller Dog Food is bad enough. I have to confess that I've never seen the movie--and probably won't ever, because Old Yeller looks quite a bit like the Golden Lab I had as a kid--but I can understand the trauma that it caused innumerable kids when they saw the movie; Bill Murray even references it in Stripes.

But this atrocity... what... what were they thinking? I haven't seen this movie either, but just the description on Amazon is nearly enough to bring me to tears. (One reviewer said, "This movie doesn't move you, it shatters you.") My desire to track down the people responsible and slap them hard and repeatedly has abated somewhat since I read about it this morning, but I still wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

I'm not a big fan of tearjerkers usually, but I think I'll have to see that second movie.

I believe Tucson was one of the test markets for the dog food. I remember seeing it turn up on the shelves and just stared at it and went, "What?!" Tribs was with me in the store at the time and had no idea what had me so godsmacked.

The hard candy is just...well, I have no words. I've seen Grave Of The Fireflies and it's a hard, hard, hard film to sit through, and no matter that it's anime. It's relentless, emotion-chewing stuff. This tie-in...well, errrr...no.

Christopher and I tried to watch that movie last summer. We had to turn it off and send it back to Netflix, unfinished.

Animated films aren't supposed to be that painfully true.
