Did the round trip to work and back today, although not necessarily on purpose... missed the bus, which I was planning on taking there.  But it wasn't too bad; I even went up the incline on Knoxville north of Lake, which I had thought that I'd have to walk. It didn't kill me or even wipe me out as much as the mile or so that I rode back from the repair shop, just last week. I'm getting my bike legs back, I think.

I'm enjoying what I missed about cycling, which is that I'm going slow enough to really see things, but fast enough not to get tired of the experience. Cycling gives me more of a chance to interact with my environment. I rode past some public school lunch ladies who were picketing in protest of proposed outsourcing of the school lunch program. If I hadn't been riding, I probably wouldn't have ever seen them.

Yes, I get it. Had to take my car into the shop a couple of weeks ago and took my bike with me to ride the seven miles back home. The good fortune is that it is mostly flat until I get to my neighborhood. It was the first time I had ridden in real traffic in a few years. It was a little hairy in places where the road was quite narrow *no bike paths* and it went by a high school at start up time. A shame that more of those kids weren't doing the same with the state of physical health and gas prices.

That sounds cool. How do you keep from getting sweaty before work tho? I'd like to ride my bike to work, but I've always worked too far, and even when I worked within about 7 miles it was still seven miles down a state road with no sidewalk. :P

Well... I don't, really. Two things that can help, though, besides it being cooler in the morning: 1) give myself plenty of time to get to work, so that I don't have to really crank it, and 2) wear a T-shirt for the ride, change into my work shirt and tie, and then back into the T-shirt for the ride home. It helps if I have someplace to hang the T-shirt up to dry.
