End of an era
Feb. 23rd, 2010 03:21 pmI usually don't post Onion links because it should be required reading (even if, you know, It's Not As Funny As It Used To Be), but I'll make an exception for this:
( Mild naughtiness lies yonder )

Kids Write the Darnedest Comics
Feb. 17th, 2010 04:26 pmAxe Cop, written by a five-year-old and drawn by his twenty-nine-year-old brother. It is for such as this that the Internet was made. The Nicolle brothers are my new masters now.
Prince and the Revolution rehearsal videos, 1984, including some songs that you may not have heard of. The Tiny Glyph is a fiend about getting his videos pulled from YouTube, so get 'em while the getting's good.
Easily Amused: The Sequel
Feb. 15th, 2010 04:17 pmCourtesy of Your Argument Is Invalid, there's this little gem which uses the same picture as my previous post.

Let me hear your balalaikas ringing out
Feb. 13th, 2010 05:38 pmPossibly the best thing to come out of this or any other Olympics: a Tatar folk music group covering "We Are the Champions".
I was in a Russian folk orchestra at the University of Illinois back in the day, and used to envy some of the smaller ensembles that we'd see occasionally because they could be really tight like this. They're quite good.

Jan. 12th, 2010 02:26 pmA round-up (although possibly not comprehensive--I seem to recall reading about others that aren't listed here) of restaurant challenges for free food. Now that I'm on a diet, this is like the dirtiest porn ever. In aggregate, I think that they constitute an entire cow, plus a couple of hogs and a fifty-winged chicken.

Nov. 7th, 2009 12:16 pmList of cats with fraudulent diplomas on Wikipedia, being considered for deletion. The owners generally got the degrees for the cats to expose diploma mills. (Via.)
Someone who left my planet too soon
Oct. 29th, 2009 01:47 pmI tend to avoid what Snopes calls glurge, "inspirational" stories passed on by email forwarding, because even when the story is true, it seems that they get changed in the telling, and usually with an exhortation pasted on the end to read the Bible or go to church, preferably the sender's. But this--this really broke my heart:
Family Finds Letters From 6-Year-Old After Cancer Claims Her
I simply cannot fathom the amount of love and courage it took to do that, at any age, let alone six.
P.S. More about the notes themselves.
